Little did I know as I painted this idyllic scene that Lahaina would be burned to the ground within a few months. As I painted I could feel the long history of the Islands even before the whaling ships and tourist invasions. As I relaxed with a glass of wine and ordered dinner, I enjoyed the colorful sunset. A perfect day in a perfect place. Impossible to repeat. Impossible to forget.
